People
This lesson is designed for 1:1 instruction with a teacher or therapist. It can also be adapted for use with a small group of 2-4 students.
Setup
To prepare, educators should go to the Bingo Generator website and print out all the files created. Cut out dealer cards. Provide each student with a bingo player card and put the bingo chips into a container. Optionally, educators should also lay out bingo cards for themselves if they wish to participate. The deck of calling cards should be placed face down.
Procedures
- Hold up a calling card so the image is facing the student.
- As the student looks at the cards, ask the student to identify the vocabulary word.
- You can ask the student questions about the vocabulary word. For example, whether or not they like the item on the card and why.
- Explain to the student that you are going to play a game of bingo together. Depending on the student’s knowledge of the game, it might be helpful to review the rules.
- Have the student try out reading a caller card out loud. You should respond by taking a bingo chip and placing it on the corresponding image in your player mat.
- Alternately, you can have the student start off as the player and have the student place a bingo chip on his or her player card after you read a calling card.
- You can alternate the role of the caller with every turn, with all participants participating in the game as players as well. You can alternate roles with each person only playing a single role: either caller or player. You can also have each person stay with one role throughout the entire game.
